What type of equipment do you use?
We always use FCC Certified equipment because we are concerned about your connection and will not offer equipment that has not been approved for this type Wide Area Network deployment. Business service and multiple tenants units we use Proxim 2.4/5.8 GHz Gear

How Secure is my connection?
Wireless is as secure as the Internet itself. Because important data like credit card numbers are usually encrypted when you order something on the Internet, that same data will travel our network encrypted.

Just as it is possible to view data traveling through the Internet, it is possible to view data traveling through the air over our radio links. However, we do employ WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) 128-bit, or better, encryption as an added security measure. Because we offer business service we also offer VPN (Virtual Private Network) over our wireless to insure a secure connection, when needed.

How does this Wireless compare to Cable and/or DSL?
Cable is frequently oversubscribed, meaning that the cable company doesn't use enough high-speed connections to the Internet backbone for the number of users on their system. This causes Internet access to slow down. DSL is limited by distance. DSL speeds decrease the farther away from the telephone company's CO (central office) you are, and doesn't work at all if you are more than 18,000 feet away (About 3 to 4 miles) from the main switch location.

Wireless Internet access is one of the fastest options available today. Typi cally, users experience speeds of 1,000 Ð 3,000 Mbps or more. ISDN runs at a constant speed of 128 to 144 Mbps. DSL speeds vary, but top out at about 1,500 Mbps. Cable modems can go as high as 1,500 Mbps or more. Wireless Internet access is more affordable than most broadband options because we use the "air" to transport the signal, not the Telcos expensive copper or the Cables company's expensive fiber.

What is Line of Sight?
For wireless, antenna line of sight is required. Trees and Buildings greatly reduce range and performance; therefore line of sight is highly desirable. If you are located in a heavily dense tree area, but within 3 miles of one of our POPs we maybe able to deliver service. In regards to Indoor installations, line of sight is not required. However, walls and obstructions can reduce range.

What technology does A Wireless Gateway use?
At A Wireless Gateway we use license-free digital microwave radio networks to provide high-speed two-way Internet access to homes and businesses throughout our coverage areas. Our digital microwave radios operate in the 5.02.4 GHz, 18 GHz, 23 GHz, and 900 MHz ISM (Industrial-Scientific-Medical) bands allocated by the FCC for digital radio communications. Our microwave radios use DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) technology originally designed for fast, reliable, and secure military communications under adverse conditions.
